Effects of a growth inhibitor and other factors on the tissue cathepsins of tumor-bearing rats.

چکیده
It has been known from the work of Maver and Dunn (.5) and others (a review of the earlier work is given in [5]) that the presence of certain tumors causes an increased catheptic activity in various host tissues. These observations have been con firmed and extended by Zamecnik and Stephenson (10, 11), who demonstrated that only certain of the catheptic enzymes were thus affected. The ef fect of the presence of a tumor on the over-all catheptic reaction of the host tissues has again been confirmed here, and additional studies have been made concerning the effect on the cathepsins of such factors as starvation, protein depletion, and the administration of 4-dimethylaminostilbene hydrochloride, a substance indicated by Haddow, Harris, Koii, and Hoe (3) to be a potent tu mor growth inhibitor.

Blockade of Hypoxia: The Impact on Tumor Growth in an Experimental Tumor Model
Background: Tumor microenvironment is an active factor participating in immunoregulation, thereby preventing immunosurveillance and limiting the efficacy of anticancer therapies. Hypoxia as a major characteristic of solid tumors causes the expression of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α (HIF-1α). This is a transcription factor that mediates hypoxic responses of tumor cells and involves in the express...
متن کاملEffect of Six Weeks of Interval Exercise Training along with Selenium Nanoparticle Ingestion on Bcl-2 and LC3 Genes expression in the Tumor Tissue of Breast Tumor–Bearing Mice
Introduction: Some factors such as exercise training and pharmacological interventions can slow tumor growth. To determine the underlying mechanisms, we investigated the effect of six weeks of interval exercise training along with ingestion on Bcl-2 and LC3 genes expression in the tumor tissue of breast tumor–bearing mice. Methods: Twelve female BALB/c mice were injected with cancer cell line a...
متن کاملExpression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-2/9 and Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase-1/2 as Predictive Factors in Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Introduction: Metalloproteinases and their tissue inhibitors play an important role in the metastases formation. A multistage process of carcinogenesis requires the involvement of numerous enzymes and compounds that facilitate the expansion of tumor cells. The formation of metastases depends on both metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors activation leading to the acti...
متن کاملNeurotrophic Effects of Swimming and Crocin Consumption on the Rats with Obesity Induced by a High-fat Diet
Introduction: Obesity is known as a multifactorial physical disorder. On the other hand, regular sport exercises and crocin consumption have beneficial effects on obesity. In this regard, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of eight weeks of swimming training with crocin consumption on neurotrophic factors in the heart tissue of obese rats. Methods</strong...
متن کاملEffects of Enoxaparin Emulsion on Dimethylbenzanthracene-induced Breast Cancer in Female Rats
Background : Enoxaparin is an anticoagulant medication. Anticoagulation inhibits tumor cell–mediated release of angiogenic proteins and diminishes angiogenic response. Angiogenesis is an important event in various cancers such as breast cancer. Angiogenesis provide oxygen and nutrients to tumor cells and causes tumor progression. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the anti-angio...
